Switching the Channels
Dear Readers,
My season’s greetings to you all, lovers of English and thus ‘School English’!
As for me, my dream came true at last and I spent both Christmas and New Year’s Day at my friend’s house in England. Here, as usual, I enjoy tranquillity and relaxation. I read, watch TV and walk in the garden. Isn’t that happiness?
An Australian Christmas
For people in the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas is all about cold mornings, large hot lunches, and snow. In Australia, Christmas is celebrated during the summer months with no snow and log fires for us! For Australians it’s about sun, the beach, and often inappropriate large hot lunches, though our Christmas Cards and traditions usually depict those of colder climates. Australians have Christmas Trees, Father Christmas, Christmas Carols and gifts which are a familiar Christmas scenario.
Christmas Adventures
Once a year all of us forget about our everyday problems and become children again waiting for the miracle to come. It can happen only at Christmas and you should be very careful not to miss it because even the most common event is likely to change your life completely. Let’s think of some likely Christmas situations and decide what you can do about them:
Silent night
Dear Reader,
December is always connected in our minds with the coming holidays: Christmas and New Year.
And no wonder. They are the brightest celebrations of the year and everyone (young and old) is waiting for them. And everyone (even though not saying it aloud) is waiting for some miracle.
Gratitude
Dear Reader,
Today I am going to talk to you about holidays which give us the chance to express our gratitude for many good things in life. Of course, these are Thanksgiving and Christmas (remember “giving thanks” for Christmas joys from the song by Steve Wonder?) in the first place.
