Johnny Rotten has finally gone mainstream. The Sex Pistols are taking legal action against an Ice-cream maker for using what they consider to be their copyright artwork.
Icecreamists is running an ad campaign for an ice-cream cocktail called the Sex Pistol, featuring a shot of absinthe. The product is being marketed at Selfridges on Oxford Street.
Part of the campaign states that the ice cream is more “Sid and Nancy than Ben and Jerry”. The artwork looks similar to the cover of the Sex Pistols ‘God Save The Queen’ single from the 70s but instead reads ‘God Save The Cream’.
Lawyers for the Sex Pistols filed a legal application against the company claiming it is using the band’s brand to sell ice cream.
John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten is no new comer to selling out. Last year he fronted a television campaign for Country Life butter.
