Lindsay Lohan is an American actress, model, and pop singer. Lohan started in show business as a child fashion model for magazine advertisement and television commercials. At age 10, she began her acting career in the soap opera Another World; at 11, she made her motion picture debut by playing identical twins in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.
Lohan rose to stardom1 with her leading roles in the films Freaky Friday (Чумовая пятница), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (Звезда сцены), Mean Girls (Дрянные девчонки) and Herbie: Fully Loaded (Сумасшедшие гонки). In 2004, Lohan launched a second career in pop music yielding2 the albums Speak (2004) and A Little More Personal (Raw) (2005). Lohan’s personal life has been a frequent subject of celebrity and tabloid journalism.
Lindsay Morgan Lohan was born in New York City on July 2, 1986. Her mother Dina is a former Radio City “Rockette” while her father Michael was a long-time Wall Street trader who developed and then sold a multimillion-dollar pasta business to pursue funding and development of major studios and independent Hollywood projects.
Along with her three younger siblings3, Michael, Aliana and Dako ta, Lindsay Lohan grew up on Long Island’s North Shore. Lindsay was such a natural beauty that she began modeling at the age of 3. In fact, she was the first redheaded child ever signed by the renowned Ford Modeling Agency. She also modeled for Calvin Klein Kids , Abercrombie Kids, Wendy’s, the Gap, Pizza Hut, and Jell-O, in which she shared the screen with Bill Cosby.
When she was 7, Lindsay Lohan was required to dress up as garbage for a Halloween skit4 on the Late Show with David Letterman called “Things You Find on the Bottom of the Subway.” It was her first real acting job.
In 1996, Lindsay Lohan got her second big break when she was cast on the long-running NBC soap opera Another World (Другой мир). For only one season, she became the third actress to portray Alexandra “Alli” Fowler.
She was ten when she hit the highway to fame as Disney sought to remake the hugely successful family comedy The Parent Trap (Ловушка для родителей) (1998).
In addition, she also got a three-picture deal with Disney thanks to this movie. Her next move was to appear in the Wonderful World of Disney production of Life-Size (Идеальная игрушка) (2000), a comedy also featuring supermodel Tyra Banks.
She also played Bette Midler’s daughter in the first episode of the short-lived series, Bette (2000), but Lohan, then 14, quit when the production moved from New York to Los Angeles.
This left Lindsay Lohan with some free time and she spent it shooting the Disney Channel Original Movie of the Month, Get a Clue (Найди ключ) (2002). After that, she took a short break from acting.
During this period, Lindsay decided to concentrate on her musical career. In September 2002, music heavyweight5 Emilio Estefan Jr. took Lohan under his wing. In 2005, she released her debut album, Speak which was certified for platinum sales in the USA. Next year, her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Following a brief hiatus6, Lohan won a lead role in another remake of a Disney classic: Freaky Friday (2003), which allowed her to showcase her singing abilities in the movie. The song “Ultimate” is performed by Lindsay’s character at the beginning of the movie’s end credits.
Next on her plate were two films, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Paramount’s Mean Girls, both released in 2004. Drama Queen was a modest success at the box office, but was a failure with critics. A few months later, she made everyone forget about it by starring in the hit Mean Girls (2004), her first PG-137 (and first non-Disney) film.
In 2005, Lindsay Lohan added the movie Herbie: Fully Loaded (another Disney flick8) to her resume, and in 2006 she starred in Just My Luck (Поцелуй на удачу), A Prairie Home Companion (Компаньоны), Bobby (Бобби), and The Holiday (Отпуск по обмену). She then appeared in Chapter 27 (Глава 27) as a John Lennon fan who befriends Mark David Chapman (Jared Leto) on the day he murders the singer. The film had trouble finding a distributor for the United States and received a very limited release. However, all that success turned Lindsay into quite the “party girl,” and she was constantly seen at clubs with the likes of Paris Hilton. Her wild ways finally caught up to her after a car accident that saw her being charged for DUI9. Entering a rehabilitation facility in January 2007, she was allowed to continue shooting her latest thriller-mystery film I Know Who Killed Me (Я знаю, кто убил меня). The film premiered “to an abysmal10 $3.5 million” and earned Lohan two nominations for worst actress at the Golden Raspberry Awards11.
Despite a roller-coaster12 year of arrests, drug abuse13, rehab14, and not-so-great films Lohan started work on a third album in 2007. Lohan stated that she wants the album to be dance, hip-hop, and R&B - “kind of Kylie Minogue-meets-Rihanna.” In May, 2008, a song entitled “Bossy” was leaked and later officially released as a “buzz single15” from the album and received a favourable reaction from consumers. Bossy became Lohan’s first single to enter the Hot Dance Club Play chart, and her first #1 hit on this chart.
In 2008 Lohan appeared on ABC’s Ugly Betty (Дурнушка Бетти) television series, her first screen appearance since I Know Who Killed Me. Lohan played Kimmie Keegan, an old schoolmate of America Ferrera’s character Betty Suarez.
Lohan’s latest film project, Labor Pains (Родовые схватки), in which she plays a young woman who pretends to be pregnant to avoid being fired16, will appear as a TV movie on the ABC Family cable channel in July 2009 and be released on DVD a month later.
It was announced in May 2009 that Lohan has landed the lead role in the upcoming 2010 film The Other Side (Другая сторона), alongside Jason Lee, Woody Harrelson, Alanis Morissette and Eddie Izzard. She will star as a grad student17 who discovers a mystery involving the strange residents of a remote island.
She is also set to appear in Dare to Love Me (Влюбись в меня) which is also slated18 for a 2010 release.
