Language in Use (Tests-intermediate), Cambridge English Readers, Cambridge English for Schools (Level 4) и рассчитаны на достаточно высокий уровень знаний учащихся. Для тех, кто хочет сдать экзамен на самый высокий показатель, мы рекомендуем пользоваться учебником Cambridge First Certificate Handbook ( written by Helen Naylor and Stuart Hagger), который написан в формате экзамена на Первый Кембриджский сертификат и дает пошаговую подготовку к различным тестовым заданиям по чтению, аудированию, письму и говорению. С помощью этого учебника можно также проверить в тестовом формате свои знания грамматики и лексики.

    The Real Aunt Molly

(taken from ’The Fruitcake Special and other stories’ by Frank Brennan, Cambridge English Readers).

Life had been quite difficult for Aunt Molly when she was a child. She was poor and her parents had died early on. She (1) to look after herself. She (2) never to read properly and left school at an early age. But she (3) always cheerful and honest and didn’t complain about the hard work she did to earn her living. She (4) as a cleaner wherever there was work to do. She liked cleaning because she (5) to make any difficult decisions. Perhaps she wasn’t used to (6)decisions. I don’t know. But everybody liked her and she was never out of work.

She met Uncle Dalton when she (7) as a cleaner at the bus station. He was a bus driver and it was when he (8) just for the day that he first saw her cleaning the bus station office. He fell in love with her as soon as he (9) her. It was the same for Aunt Molly. As soon as their eyes met it was love for both of them.

Прочитайте вопросы 18-22 и тексты, обозначенные буквами A-F. Установите, в каких текстах можно найти ответы на эти вопросы. Ответ на каждый вопрос можно найти только в одном тексте. В задании один текст лишний.

Which film would be the best for each person?

    18. Alice likes to be frightened when she watches a film.
    19. Vicky is interested in older, more unusual films.
    20. Edward and his friends are 13. They like exciting films with lots of action.
    21. Carol and Jim want to take their son Tom to the cinema on his 8th birthday.
    22. Fiona wants to take her elderly mother to a film with nice music.

    A. Bad Loser.
When he loses the Presidential election, an angry army general asks for $10 billion-or he’ll destroy Los Angeles. But how will he do it? Where is he? Can FBI agent Casey find him in time? If you like James Bond, you’ll enjoy this too.

    B. Missing.
This black and white film was made in the early 1960s. It tells the story of an Italian woman who finds an old letter, then travels to East Africa- and disappears. This is a strange film, beautiful to watch, but full of sadness and anger.

    C. Killer Mouse.
A cartoon about a super-mouse who doesn’t like cats- or people. I must say I didn’t find it funny or frightening, but if you ‘re under ten, you’ll love it.

    D. Star Bores.
90 minutes of crazy comedy in space. If you know the Star Wars, Star Trek and Alien movies, you’ll probably understand most of the jokes. I didn’t!

    E. Out of the Egg.
Two children find a large egg in a forest and take it home. Then during the night… A fantastic horror movie for age 18+. You’ll never eat eggs again!

    F. Love is…
This is a musical comedy with beautiful people, set on a lovely tropical island. There isn’t much of a story, but the music’s good, and it’s quite funny in parts. A film for the whole family, young and old.
