    Dear Reader,

In the previous column we were talking about Queen Elizabeth’s 80th birthday and about its celebrations which take place in April and June.

This time we’ll be celebrating another birthday. It’s the 70th birthday of our friend and permanent author, the British citizen, Mr David Alec Wright. He is celebrating it in August, in fact, but we decided to start the celebrations in July for there is a good pretext for that: his long awaited book “Cheshire Tales” has been published.

This time the author opens for the reader the fascinating world of nature – and does it in a very exquisite manner. The main characters of the book are the inhabitants of an English country garden and the English wildwood. The scene is Cheshire, England, UK. So when we were choosing the title for the whole book we had no difficulty, “Cheshire Tales”, of course! It is quite in an English tradition (“Canterbury Tales”, for instance!) The reader will be delighted by the encyclopaedic knowledge and love for those creatures inhabiting the world around us, human beings, demonstrated by the author. There will be also an opportunity to review your Latin!

It is the second book by David. His first book “Stories From Old England” was published in Samara in 2003. As well as “Stories From Old England”, the book “Cheshire Tales” is an international project by a team from different countries: UK (the author David Wright and photographer Rev Sheila Fletcher), Russia (artists Maria Vorotyntseva and Julia Shebalina). The designer is Valeriy Aleksandrov and editor, Nadezhda Rogozhina).

The book will be distributed by John Parson’s university bookshop, Samara, Russia. Address: 196 Molodogvardeyskaya St. Tel. 7-846-242-50-97

Next to the column you will find one of the chapters from the book.

        Happy Birthday, David!

    Nadezhda
